  • Two and a half day of experimenting with making our own carbon ITU-aerobars for Gustav´s Giant Propel. Not easy and a steep learning curve. At the end we think we might know what and how to do it.

    Couple tips
Use 3m super 77 adhesive to mark the carbon fiber sheet before you cut it, it makes the fibers stick together and not fall apart.
Use "diy prepreg" sandwhich it between a plastic wrap and squeegie the resin in with a credit card.
Always cut before you mix your epoxy and resin, just saves so much stress. I make a template on thicc paper so I can make it repeatable.
When drilling or cutting cf use a respirator. When I dont use a respirator it fucks up my riding for a week.
I like using plaster of paris for molds or an expanding foam that is very dense.

the main issue is there shouldve been an engineering /design phase first. do not combine that with the production phase or ull end up with who knows what. the best way to do it would be to use something like wood to make a model of exactly what you want, then make a glass mold from that- simple and effective one sided mold even with the diy vacuum method. the end result will be a mirror image of the wood model with a perfectly smooth finish generally void free as long as the vacuum is decent. but there will always be tiny voids with the hand layup method even in a professional setting but thats nothing to worry about.

Have you made bike related parts yourself? I saw on your channel you're a triathlete?

If I want to make Bicycle Handlebars using carbon fibre/epoxy, using Resin Transfer Moulding. What are benefits of using my selected composite material and process for the part? What are the main difficulties for the design and the manufacturing?
    Thank you in advance
